Have you ever been watching something on TV late at night, and when a commercial break came up, you were startled by a loud mouthed guy on a commercial who was practically shouting at you to buy something?

What easily comes to mind is a car salesman. They are talking loud and fast, and they are waving their arms and dancing around like someone who drank way to much coffee. Add to that the way they are dressed, and you decide that there is no way you would ever buy anything from them, or anyone like them.

We’ve all had experiences with pushy sales people. It’s easy to get the idea that sales people are all obnoxious.

This makes it hard for some people to get comfortable with starting an online business. Why?

Because the way you make money with your own business is by selling products or services. But you don’t want to be one of “Those” sales people. That’s one of the obstacles that hold back a lot of new marketers.

They don’t want to sell. If you don’t sell, you don’t make money. Simple as that.

Let’s look at this from another perspective…

Isn’t it true that you have bought a lot of merchandise over the years from a lot of businesses from a lot of helpful employees? These employees answered your questions, steered you to the product that you wanted to buy, and made the process easy and helpful.

To buy something, you have to go to businesses that sell things. If a business has a pushy sales person, you leave and go to another store.

But if the sales person helps you to get exactly what you want, you purchase and you’re happy. Why?

Because they helped you solve a problem.

Instead of being afraid of selling, think of yourself as a problem solver. What you’re doing is helping people find the product that will solve a problem or help them fill a desire. And it doesn’t matter what you’re selling.

Everyone likes to buy stuff, they just don’t want to be told what to buy.

What they do want is someone who makes it easy for them to get what they want. Someone who will answer any questions, and someone who will show them the best price and value.

Trying to convince someone to buy something almost never works. Even if you get them to buy, there is a good chance that they will be back for refund.

But if you offer solutions, not only will they buy, but they will be back the next time they need what you’re offering. That’s how you build a successful and profitable online business.

Don’t be afraid of selling. Selling is easy and is something to be proud of. Being pushy and obnoxious isn’t, no matter what situation you’re in.

A lot of the list building courses that I have purchased over the years have spent most of the focus on getting subscribers. That’s obviously very important, and these courses were good at teaching that point. And I have a lot of list building courses on my hard drive!

What is also important is making sure that your subscribers actually open and read the messages you send them. It does you no good to have a big list of subscribers if only a few of them ever open, read, and click on the links in your messages.

Something that can work really well is to offer a high value freebie as an incentive to subscribe that also gets them to open your email messages. It’s a proven winner and it’s easy to do.

That is to offer an email training series as a bonus. What you’re offering is a multi-part series of messages that will give some really good information that your subscriber is interested in.

What you’re doing is getting them into the habit of opening the messages you send to them.

If you do a good job with your training series, they will be more likely to read all of your messages.

A way to make this even more powerful is to have your messages give an overview of what you’re going to teach them, with a link to a web site where they can access the rest of the content.

On the web page, you can have audios, videos, text, and/or links to download a report. On the web page you can also put ads for your own products or products you’re an affiliate for.

If you do this, not only are your subscribers getting into the habit of opening your messages, they are also in the habit of clicking on your links.

An easy way to create a multi-part email series is to buy a PLR product that you can break up into pieces. For example, you can offer a chapter at a time. And don’t forget that you can also find PLR videos that you can use for this purpose. And the advantage of this is that you can find PLR videos that also come with transcripts.

That way, you can put the video on a web page, and put the text below the video. Your subscriber can decide how they want to access your content.

Getting subscribers is important, and so is getting them to read your messages. Using a multi-part email training course is a great freebie and a great way to get your subscribers used to paying attention to the messages you send them.

You know that one of the best things you can do to grow your business is to continually add subscribers to your list. The problem is that these days there are a lot of people just like you trying to build their list. With so many of us trying to add to our lists, it’s getting harder to get anyone to sign up.

The number one piece of advice that I have heard over and over again is that you have to offer something for free to get someone to subscribe to your list. And that makes sense. It’s something that you should be doing already, because it works.

For the purposes of this article, let’s talk about a favorite freebie of mine, the free report. In other words a PDF file that you offer in exchange for a name and email address.

For this to be effective you have to come up with something that you could write about that would interest your visitors and get them to subscribe. You already knew that, didn’t you?

So once you get your free report created and uploaded to your hosting account, you start driving traffic to your squeeze page. That’s good, but what if there was a way to get additional traffic with almost no effort on your part?

Remember that I mentioned that there was a lot of competition out there, and that if you wanted to get subscribers, you had to offer a freebie? Well…

Think of other marketers who NEED a freebie, but don’t have the time, interest, or ability to create one of their own. What if you offered them your free report to give away to their subscribers? Do you think they would be interested?

When you created your free report, you added in some links that went to offers that made you money, didn’t you? Either to your own products, or to products that you were promoting as an affiliate.

What you can do that will benefit you and the other marketers is this:

Offer them the free report, and let them add their own affiliate links. If you have your own products and have an affiliate program, have them sign up as an affiliate and let them put their links in the report.

If you only have affiliate links in the report, you would still let them replace them with their links. You wouldn’t make any money, but you would be getting something else of value – new subscribers to your list, all on auto-pilot.

In your free report that you let others give away, you let them know that you are leaving a link to your opt-in page in the report. Put it on the title page, maybe in the footer of each page, and at the end of the report.

You’re giving other marketers something they need – a freebie. In return, you’re getting free traffic to your opt-in page and more subscribers. It’s easy to do, because you’re not asking for anything big. In fact you’re offering a solution to a problem they have, and all you ask in return is that a link back to your site is left in the report.

The good news is that there is software that you can get that will allow you to offer rebrandable PDF files, complete with the application that will allow anyone to easily add their links to the report, and at the same time make sure that the links that point back to your site can’t be altered.

This method of getting subscribers is time tested, easy to do, and there is no reason you shouldn’t give it a try.

I’ve lost count of how many courses I have purchased on list building. Some were good, some were okay, and some were easily forgotton. What they all had in common was that they left out at least one important part of the list building process.

Today, there are more products coming out than ever before. Take a look at the Warrior Forum Special Offers section for example. Several new offers are posted each and every day on every marketing topic you can think of.

And new list building products are being released on a regular basis. Since it is the Warriors Forum Special Offers section, these products are very affordable. Because of this, what is being offered is usually a part of the process of building a list.

Here’s what I mean. Just yesterday there was a list building product released that showed how to get an existing list to open and read your messages, and click on your links and buy. This is for someone who already has a list.

There are products that teach you how to get subscribers from Facebook. Or how to optimize your squeeze page to get more opt-ins. A product that shows you free and paid ways to get traffic to your opt-in pages. A product that teaches you the best headlines you can use to get your messages opened.

Each of these products teach what they promise. They are extremely affordable – $5, $10, $12 – so they are worth the money.

The only problem is that once you buy all of the products that you need to learn how to do everything you need to do to build your list, you end up spending a lot of money. It’s easy to end up spending $100 or more before you’re done.

If you want to learn all of the steps you need to build a profitable list all in one product, then I have a solution for you. It’s what I bought that finally made it easy to discover how to do all of the things I needed to do to start growing my own profitable email list. That product is the Promo Dashboard.

The Promo Dashboard starts with finding your target market with money to spend, continues with getting the attention of your target market and getting them to your opt-in page. You learn how to create a valuable free gift to entice your visitors to subscribe, and then goes on to show you how to keep your subscribers happily opening and reading your messages.

Nothing is left out. Just follow the icons, complete each step, and when you’re all done, you’ll be getting subscribers and making profits. And it’s a whole lot less than $100.

In fact, until December 23, you can get it for over half off the regular price of $59.95 – it’s only $27. If you want the real deal when it comes to building a profitable list, hurry on over to the Promo Dashboard…

If you’re new to list building, what you need to realize is that it’s not how big your list is that will determine how much money you make. Sure, it’s better to have more subscribers, but what really counts is whether or not your subscribers are going to spend any money.

And to make money you need to find markets and niches where there are already people who are spending money on products and/or services on a regular basis.

If you’re trying to build and profit from a list, it makes sense to target markets where people are buying things on a regular basis. Using the ever popular dog niche, dog owners are going to be interested in collars and leashes, dog toys, dog training, dog dishes, treats, dog beds, and a lot more. Over time, they will buy a lot of stuff for their dogs.

How about the exercise niche? Someone interested in exercise would probably be interested in exercise equipment, supplements, exercise clothing and shoes, workout videos and books, membership sites, and training advice.

Another profitable market is one where people are buying on a monthly basis. This would include vitamins or other supplements, skin care products, and membership sites.

Markets to avoid are markets where there is a lot of interest, but the people in that market aren’t interested in spending any money. A way to find out if a market is spending any money is to go to the related sites and see if there are any ads promoting products. If not, move on to another market.

There are markets where people are spending money, but they are only looking for a solution to a problem. Markets like anti-virus software come to mind. Any market where someone buys the product and then once the problem is solved, they’re no longer interested in that market.

So you want to find markets where there are a lot of people spending a lot of money. And the final point is to make sure that there are a lot of products being promoted. A market with a lot of products being advertised shows that people are making money in this market.

This gives you the opportunity to offer new products to your list on a regular basis.

What makes this so worthwhile is that you aren’t competing with the adveritsers in this market, because once someone is on your list, you can promote for free as long as they are on your list.

Do your research before you enter a market and start building a list, and you’ll end up with a much more profitable list.

If you want access to a step by step process that starts with market research and shows you all the steps to a profitable list, make sure to take a look at the Promo Dashboard. It’s all about building and profiting from your list. It’s available for over 50% off the regular price of $59.95.

We all know how important it is to build a list. How a list can make you a lot of money, and how you need to start building your list right now. It seems so easy. All you have to do is get an autoresponder account, put some code on a web page, and start getting subscribers. Here’s the question:

Why is it that so many people aren’t already building a list?

I can tell you from personal experience and from reading countless forum posts why that is. The reason is that it is not as simple as it seems. There’s more to it than putting some code on your web page or blog with an opt-in box and waiting for a flood of subscribers. Much more.

First you need to decide what market you are targeting and what you want to write about.

Then you have to find out where the people in your market hang out online – what forums do they visit, what web sites do they like, are they active on Twitter, Facebook, or other Web 2.0 sites?

Once you find out where they hang out, you have to decide how you can get noticed and get them to click on your links and get them to your opt-in page. Are you going to buy ads, or are you going to participate in ongoing discussions?

You have to create an opt-in page that sells your visitor on why it would be a good idea to subscribe to your email list.

You should probably create a free bonus that they can only get if they become a subscriber – a bribe – in the form of audio, video, ebook, or download of some sort.

Once you have them on your list, you need a way to keep them interested in what you’re sending them so that they are opening and reading your messages. And you need to find creative and friendly ways of recommending products that they can buy, so you can make money from your list.

That’s a lot of steps that you have to figure out before you can build your list. As a result a lot of people put list building off until later, which usually means that they don’t do it at all.

There are several courses that you can purchase, and I’ve bought quite a few of them over the years. Most of them leave out one or more of the steps.

They might be good at showing you how to get traffic to your opt-in page, but don’t tell you how and what to send your subscribers to keep them interested. Or they might tell you to create a free report or video to give away to new subscribers, but don’t tell you how to do it.

There is one course that does cover all of the steps, and that course is the Promo Dashboard.

The Promo Dashboard is a step by step training from Marlon Sanders that shows you everything you need to know about how to build a list and profit from it.

You’ll discover how to find your target market, how to get their attention through free and paid methods, how to create and upload your opt-in page – complete with examples of successful pages you can model.

The different types of bonuses that you can create – audio, video, and pdf ebooks, and how to do it – using free tools. How to keep your subscribers interested enough to open and read your emails. How to promote products that your subscribers are interested in and that will make you a profit.

You get all that and more with the Promo Dashboard. What’s even better is that just in time for the holiday season, Marlon has slashed the price of the Promo Dashboard from the regular price of $59.95. It’s available for a limited time at over 50% off – only $27.

This offer is only available until December 22, so don’t delay. The Promo Dashboard is the best investment I’ve ever made to learn how to build my list, and now it’s your turn. I’ve never seen it on sale before, and at over %50 off, it’s a deal that you need to take a look at.

Go check out the Promo Dashboard before it’s too late…

WordPress blogs are easy to use, and make it easy for just about anyone to get a site up in no time. But as good as WordPress is, one of the disadvantages is that if you’re trying to build a list, it can be difficult.

The reason for this is that there are a lot of distractions on a blog. There are the other posts that are displayed on the page. The sidebar has a lot of distractions such as links to categories, blogroll links, affiliate links, banners, and more.

Adding in your opt-in form is a good idea, but it is really hard to make it stand out so that visitors will even notice it, let alone fill in their name and email address.

Pop ups and exit-pops often get blocked, and even the task of getting an opt-in form to fit in your side bar can be a challenge.

Now all of those problems are a thing of the past. You can get a brand new, and absolutely free WordPress Plugin called Premium List Magnet Lite.

What this plugin does is it allows you several different options for getting your opt-in form in front of your visitors. You control how the opt-in form looks, what it says, and how it is displayed. You can set it to show once each visit, once a week, or on every page. You can set the opt-in so that it doesn’t show immediately – you can set a delay that suits your purposes.

There are four main ways your opt-in form is displayed.

The first way is for it to slide in from the top of the browser window. The opt-in form is not large enough to keep the visitor from reading the page, so they can see the form, and still access the content.

The second way is for it to slide in from the bottom of the browser window. Like the first option, the visitor can still access the content.

The advantage of the first 2 ways is that your opt-in form is right where your visitor can see it. They can easily enter their email address and subscribe, or they can ignore the form and read the content on the page.

The third way is for the opt-in form to slide in from the left of the screen, and the fourth way is for it to slide in from the right. With these two methods, your visitor can’t help seeing the form. They have the option of closing the form, or filling it out.

The disadvantage is that some visitors may be annoyed and click away from your site.

Premium List Magnet Lite gives you full control of how, when, and where your opt-in forms appear.

With this free plugin, you can easily display your optin form so that you can start building your list quicker and easier than ever. And you’re not limited to just on color or style of form. You can get as creative as you want.

The Premium List Magnet Lite plugin is a powerful way to increase the effectiveness of your list building efforts. When you click on the link below, you’ll have access to demonstrations of the four ways your opt-in forms can be used.

Once you’ve made the decision to build a list and you’ve decided what you’re going to use to manage your list – either software that you purchase and install or a service that you pay for – it’s time to make it possible for people to subscribe to your awesome new list.

In other words your opt-in form.

You can get subscribers in a few different ways, such as a web page with an opt-in form, an opt-in form on the sidebar of your blog or web site, or a pop-up with your subscription form.

No matter which method you use to get the subscriber, you need the code that will make the opt-in form work. What’s really good about the code you are provided with is that you can decide what information you ask for before someone subscribes.

What you’ll usually see is a form asking for first and last name, along with the email address, and a submit button.

You can decide that you don’t want to require a name on your form, just an email address. Or you could decide to just ask for first name and address. You could ask for more information such as physical address and phone number. Just remember that the more information you ask for, the less likely it is that your visitors will do it, and you’ll end up losing subscribers.

You can also change what the submit button says. Instead of using the default, which may be “Submit”, you can be more creative. Something like “Give Me My Newsletter Now!” or “Send Me More Info!”. These are really not good examples, but you get the idea. You can change them to suit your personality and your business.

Something else that you should make sure your opt-in form includes is a privacy policy at the bottom. You can leave it as the default, or you can make it more prominent. The idea is to assure your subscribers that you will never share or sell their email address to anyone else. And that by subscribing to your list, they are not going to be added to any other lists without their knowledge and consent.

A good privacy policy can make the difference on whether or not you get a new subscriber.

Also make it clear that you will make it easy for them to unsubscribe. Tell them that there will be an unsubscribe link in every email that you send, and that they will be automatically unsubscribed anytime they want.

Your opt-in form is both a way to get subscriber automatically subscribed to your list, and a way to assure your new subscriber that you will treat them with care and respect.

In this edition of list building essentials, I’m going to go over the solutions that are available to manage your list. These are the solutions that give you the code you need for your opt-in forms, allow for double opt-in subscriptions, automatically subscribe and unsubscribe people, and allow you to schedule and broadcast your messages.

There are two main options you have for managing your email lists – software that you purchase and install on your domain, or a service that you pay a fee for that has the software you need to manage your list.

One of the advantages that make purchasing the software to manage your list is that it is a one time cost. You don’t have to deal with monthly fees, so it means that over time you will be saving money.

Keep in mind that once you buy the software, you have to install it on your web hosting account. If you don’t have the skills to do that, you will have the added expense of hiring someone to do it for you.

While buying software to manage your list sounds like a good idea, there is a really big disadvantage…

You are installing the software on your hosting account, and if you get a spam complaint, most hosting companies will contact you and warn you about it. Or not…

Some hosting companies will suspend your account first, and then contact you. While you’re working to resolve the situation, your site is offline, and you aren’t able to send out any messages.

If your account is suspended for spam complaints, it’s not just your ability to send emails that is suspended, your site is also suspended. It’s even worse if you have more than one site in your hosting account, because the hosting company will suspend ALL of your sites.

While you can save money by purchasing and installing mailing list software on your hosting account, it’s really not a good idea.

The better option is to pay for a service to manage your mailing list. These are companies that charge a monthly fee to use their software and services. They provide you with the opt-in code you need for your web pages and blogs, the ability to send follow-up messages and to schedule broadcast messages.

Since the software is on their servers, you don’t have to deal with the hassle of updates or reinstalling the software if you move to another hosting company.

Using a service also protects you from having your web site shut down because of a spam complaint. If you get your mailing list shut down because of a spam complaint, you still have your web sites up and running because the mailing list service is not connected to your web sites.

And if you do get spam complaints, and you use double opt-in for new subscribers, the mailing list company will have the confirmation emails on file so you can prove that you didn’t spam in the first place.

While you can save money by buying and installing mailing list software on your hosting account, you can save yourself a lot of headaches by getting an account at one of the mailing list services out there. It’s really affordable because you can start with a small package that costs under $20 a month and move up as your list grows. And as your list grows, you’ll be making more money, so it will be easy to afford the increased expense of a bigger package.

So there you have options available to you and what the advantages and disadvantages are of each one. Building your mailing list starts with the software or service you need so you can get subscribers in the first place. Get started right away.

Everybody likes the idea of having a big list. A big list means big money, right? Not so fast. Not all lists are created equal, and as noted in this post, having a customer list is one of the best lists you’ll ever have. What it really comes down to is having a targeted list. So what is a targeted list, and how do you make sure that you’re building a targeted list?

A targeted list is a group of subscribers who are on your list because they share a common interest. Seems easy enough. And there are ways to build a list that don’t result in a targeted list. These ways do get more subscribers, but they are not necessarily targeted, and not likely to buy from you.

One type of subscriber that isn’t targeted, and one that you can’t do anything about is the freebie seeker. They only subscribe to get the free stuff, and then they never open and read your messages.

Another type is the one you get if you offer a free video or audio in exchange for an email address. A lot of marketers use this for a product launch sequence. The offer is usually vague, so the new subscriber doesn’t know what they’re getting until they subscribe. If it isn’t what they expected, they won’t be a targeted subscriber.

If the free bonus you offer isn’t related to the messages you end up sending out, your subscribers will lose interest, stop reading your messages, and may unsubscribe.

The starting point for a targeted list is to find out who you are targeting, and then finding out where they hang out. An easy way to find them is to do a search on your keyword or key phrase and add the words “blog”, “forum”, or “newsletter”.

Visit the sites that come up and see if there is any way you can connect with the visitors to these sites. Here are a few ideas…

Comment on the posts you find. A lot of these blogs allow a link back to your site. Just remember that a lot of blog owners look at every comment before they are published, so make sure that you are adding value to the blog by posting useful content.

Participate in forums. Once you have a few posts under your belt, you can check the rules to see if it is acceptable for you to add a link to your site at the end of your posts.

See if you can find blogs and newsletters that accept guest articles. If they do, you can write a great article, and at the end of the article include a link to your opt-in page.

And you can see if any of the sites or newsletters accept ads. Getting an ad on a site or newsletter that is targeted to your niche can be a very good investment.

As you can see, it’s not hard to find your target market, and to reach them in free and paid ways. And you’ll end up with a list that will give you the benefits you’re looking for.
