Creating Your Customer List

The most profitable list you’re ever going to have is a customer list. In other words, a list of people who have purchased a product from you. The question is how do you get this list? Especially if you’re just getting started?

There are 2 main ways that you can do it. The first way is obvious – you sell them something and then get them on a list.

To make this work, you have to have a product to sell in the first place. This is a problem for a lot of new people, and not an easy one to overcome.

You also run the risk that just because someone bought from you, it doesn’t mean that they will always appreciate being added to a marketing list. If you automatically add them to a list, they’ll just unsubscribe, and you will have a harder time adding new subscribers.

The second way to do this is to take a more traditional approach to building a list.

This is all about setting up an opt-in page to sell your visitors on the benefits of subscribing to your list, along with a free bonus for signing up. Once this is set up, your job is to get traffic to the page and start building your list.

This won’t be a customer list – yet…

The idea here is to start mailing offers to your subscribers, and once they buy something, you move them to a separate list reserved for customers. You can still send them your email blasts, but since they were willing to buy from you once, they have shown that they are receptive to spending money.

In time you will have a customer list that you have built from your general subscriber list. And you can focus your attention on your customers while building your general opt-in list.

While you still want to continually add new subscribers to your list by getting them to your opt-in page and offering a bonus for subscribing, you want to make your customers feel special.

Remember that customers get preferential treatment. They get the best deals, the best information, the most attention. In return, they will be more likely to respond to your offers and provide you with the profits that your business needs to thrive.
